This week...from the prison to broadway!?

Hmm...It's kind of been a long week! Work has been really up and down, lately more down than up. So please pray that I have a positive spirit!! Despite that, one of the better moments was yesterday when I had the oportunity to go to the California Institution for Women (the women's prison). I work in the Disability Programs & Services department at Chaffey College...Chaffey has a program at the prison, and basically the women can earn their AA degree while they're incarcerated. We're going in to do "counseling" appointments with those who have identified that they feel they have a disability, and may need some accomodations/support services. It's really been a fascinating experience thus far, and I look forward to getting more involved. In the future, after we do the initial counseling appointments, one of the aspects of my involvement will be with providing the achievement portion of testing for learning disabilities.

We did do something really fun this week! On Monday we went to an education benefit that was being held at the local high school. Basically, they had gotten several "broadway stars" together to put on a show. Most of them were part of the cast of "Wicked" which is currently showing in LA. Matt's dad had a few extra tickets so we kind of decided to go last minute. Well, it was AMAZING! It was pretty obvious that most of the people in the crowd knew these people that were performing (despite the fact that we really didn't have a clue). We went with a couple friends and we all left convinced that we have to see Wicked before it leaves LA!! As a bonus, we're pretty sure our friends can get an educator's discount on tickets so I'm pretty excited!
