Christmas Traditions

In the past, we've gone home to Iowa every other Christmas, and because my dad works construction and rarely gets to visit CA in the summer, my family has made the trek out to CA for Christmas the years we have not been home. Matt's family has been gracious in sharing the holidays with my family on "their" years! Since we're staying in CA this year...it will really be the first Christmas that Matt and I get to start some of our own Christmas traditions too. We've been brainstorming together on ways to make this year special...here's our list so far...in no particular order...
1. Take a walk on Christmas morning while sausage & egg casserole bakes in the oven. Pray together and reflect on the many blessings of 2009.
2. Eat breakfast together and read the Christmas story.

3. Open stockings and secret sibling gifts from Ashley & Kelsey (or not-so-secret :) on Christmas morning while drinking coffee and listening to Christmas music.

4. Stay up late on Christmas Eve, eat popcorn and watch a Christmas movie (yet TBD...I vote for Home Alone!).

5. Give away as much as we spend on each other's gifts.

6. Make olie bollen on New Year's Day while the boys watch football. (this tradition actually started last year)

I would love to hear what your family's most cherished Christmas traditions are. PLEASE COMMENT!!!
And finally...a few of my favorite pics from Christmases past...

Matt & I on Christmas Eve, 2006 (I think?)

Christmas 2007 - Chanhassen Dinner Theatre

Making snow angels behind WalMart in Sioux Center, Christmas 2007

Christmas 2008 - Treating my family to their first ever Buca di Beppo experience! Need I say more?!?

Don't forget to comment, and tell my your family's favorite Christmas tradition!!

Well, here at the Brewer household we have oyster soup on Christmas Eve (I can't say it's my favorite, but hey, I married into it!) We are big fans of opening presents on Christmas Eve. Love you! Hope you have a GREAT Christmas. We are thinking of you a lot... you haven't missed much here except for a bunch of FOG and cold weather. Apparently there is a storm coming, so I really hope mom and dad make it down!
