Christmas in Iowa

We woke up bright and early Christmas morning to head to LAX, bound for Iowa. I was a little nervous about the flight but Emma was so great! On our way there she was a little fussy during the descent, but otherwise hardly made a peep. Our flight back was during the evening so she slept in my Sleepywrap and on my lap the whole time. 2 necessities for airplane travel - Sleepywrap & Boppy!

There was however, seemingly something about airports that made her spit up more than normal, so we both smelled like spit-up for the majority of the trip!

When we arrived Emma was as wide-eyed as ever. I was a bit nervous because up until now she's been quite a mama's girl, and scared of most people but mom and dad. However, I think her first day in Iowa was what she needed. For whatever reason, she adjusted quite well to all of the activity, noise, and new people and was a very happy baby! She seems to have gotten over her fear of new people too!! So fun to have the cousins together, it provided for lots of photo-ops.
We were so excited to meet Dani's boyfriend, Jory, and couldn't have been more impressed. It was so great to spend the night with him and get to know him a little bit, even though he had to head out early the next morning to head to Florida with his basketball team (he is an assistant coach at DWU for the women's team). We look forward to a visit from Dani and Jory hopefully sometime this Spring or Summer!
Somehow while presents were being passed out Matt ended up with all of his, Emma's and my gifts on his lap so we all had a pretty good laugh. Speaking of opening presents, ever done it with a 4-year old around? It was a hoot! Adella could be found right next to or sitting on the lap of whoever's turn it was "helping" :) We determined that kiddos are more interested in tearing off the paper than what's inside!
After an exhausting day of travel for Emma, we decided to stay home from church, and Della quickly volunteered to join us :) Uncle Matt & Auntie Robyn weren't opposed to some alone time with our favorite niece! We had tons of fun building lego towers and shooting them over with the dart gun!
The cold weather suited Emma well as she looked adorable in her Nike stocking cap :) She wasn't quite sure what was going on every time we covered her with a blanket to go outside though!
Never a dull moment with a 5 1/2 and almost 4 month old in the house. Grandpa John had fun making the kiddos giggle with his Donald Duck voice :)
A few more highlights of the trip included - Pizza Ranch, getting together with great friends from college, lots of laughs playing iMAgiNiff, cuddle time with my niece and nephew, and sitting in the hot tub with a face mask on :) After almost getting stuck in Omaha because of a gridlock in Denver, we were SO thankful to make it home even though we didn't arrive until 12:45 on the 30th. So thankful to Southwest for holding the flight in Denver for all connections.
