recent happenings at our home...

Last week my dad installed can lights in our living room! It's so great to be able to sit in there and read, and we look forward to putting a TV above the fire place soon.
After we had the drywall done in the back rooms, the ceiling fans were unbalanced and didn't work right, so my dad fixed that and they work again! It will be so nice, especially in the summer when it gets very hot in this room! An added bonus is that Emma likes to lay on the floor under the fan.
My mom and grandpa cleaned up SOOO much of the junk and rocks sitting around in the back yard! If not for the cement slab (the only one that we're leaving there for now), you wouldn't even be able to tell that there used to be dog kennels there. We're almost ready to seed the lawn in about 3 weeks.
We planted our garden on Sunday! I'm so excited about this! We planted cabbage, arugula, lettuce, spinach, kale, red & yellow onions, zucchini, squash, cucumbers, tomatoes, peas, peppers, and corn. I have my two very non-green thumbs crossed! Matt put in a lot of work to raise the garden so that he could lay wire mesh underneath it. Hopefully this will keep the bleepitty bleeping gophers out. (Seriously, not many things make me want to swear but I am so tired of those stinking creatures.) They ate the roots completely off of the two cherry trees that we planted, and we're just hoping they haven't gotten to the other fruit trees.
This is a little walk way that will be filled with decomposed granite and have several flower beds lining it. (Those are the cherry trees in the pots, we're trying to breath life back into them!) Around the big tree in the background will be mulch and we'll eventually make a little play area for Emma there.

It's come a LONG ways, and it's so fun to see the back yard start to take shape. Thanks to my mom and dad for all of the work they did when they were here! We kind of decided we could handle having them around at least one Saturday a month :) Like Matt said to my mom, it's so nice to have people come to help out with some of the little stuff that is pretty far down on his list of things to do because there's just SO MUCH to do and he's been pretty focused on getting the yard ready to seed. Love our house!! :)
