potty training...

Here's the deal.

Thursday we attempted potty training and I learned a few things in the process. Thursday went really well, Em only had 3 accidents and even went poopy on the potty twice. I considered it a relative success. Friday couldn't have been a more completely opposite experience. She wanted absolutely nothing to do with the potty. She wouldn't even try, and had numerous accidents (often shortly after she'd been sitting on the potty). I finally decided to just back off for a little while. While I think she's perfectly capable and we will definitely try to work on this before she turns two because I think she'll be more comfortable in panties, she is still very young.

I think I went into it with kind of the wrong mindset. I had read little to nothing about potty training with the exception of one method that involves potty training your child in 24-hours (hindsite, I think the children trained using this method were probably a little older judging by the pictures on the blog). I also hadn't talked to very many moms who have potty trained their kids. After an encouraging facebook sesh with my cousin, I'm feeling a LOT better about trying this again sometime soon...adding a few components to our "method" and not expecting potty training to happen magically in a matter of days.

Rest assured, this is one of those areas where everyone has strong feelings and opinions about how things should be done but ultimately as with so many other things that go along with motherhood, I think it's just about you knowing your child and doinig what works best for you.

So - here's to pull-ups! :)

great post! every kid and every family is so different. I waited til Mya was 2 1/2... looking back I should have tried, but I didn't want her to regress when I had Eli, so I just waited until after.

On a side note, we did the 'naked' method with Mya, and she was pretty much potty trained in one day (she has issues with #2, so that took longer). I realize she was older, but I think it helped her feel when she had to go. She was naked the first 2 days and then went to church on the 3rd day in undies and stayed dry. totally recommend it if you have a free weekend!
