A Day at the Beach...In January!

We special ordered the perfect beach day this weekend, and God delivered! It was probably around 78-80 degrees, clear skies, and no wind! It doesn't get much better than that...oh yah...did I mention, it's January?!? (I don't know if I will EVER get over the giddy, childish urge I always have to call home in the middle of the winter when I'm laying out on the beach...I know, it's cruel!)

Our friends Matt & Melissa, and their son Cayden joined us. Here are the Matt's paddling out. Matt De Haan tried surfing for the first time and I think his precise words were, "The ocean kicked my butt." In his defense, I don't care how athletic you are, after your first time out, you will more than likely feel like you were hit by a truck. It works muscles you didn't know you had! :)

Here are the boys, riding the same wave. It was a really calm day, so the surfing conditions left a little to be desired. There were lots of people out and not enough waves. When we arrived it looked more like Lake Michigan that the Pacific Ocean.

Cayden seems to like my Matt...I wonder why... Here they are sharing the Chex Mix. Cayden was trying to sneak a few peanuts, which he isn't allowed to have yet. Why is it that kids usually instinctively know what they can't have and go right for it?!

Cayden wasn't too sure about the sand...but once the boys came in he LOVED walking up and down the board, which is surprising because his nose had a dangerous encounter with one of the fins early on in the day. He bounced right back though!
I think the moral of the story is that you should come and visit this wonderfully warm part of the country...we'll take you to the beach!!! :)
