new endeavors

My Intern license came in the mail this week! I haven't actually seen it yet, because I had it sent to the practice I will be working at due to the whole public address of record thing...but I'm very excited! Unlike most fields, such as physical therapy, where you are considered an intern during your graduate practical experience, in Marriage & Family Therapy you must achieve a certain number of practicum hours as an MFT Trainee pre-degree. Prior to becoming a licensed therapist, you have to accumulate 3,000 hours as an MFT Intern (post-degree). So the whole intern-thing can throw people off a bit. Thankfully these are paid positions and hours include not only direct client contact, but also personal therapy, workshops/seminars, progress notes, group therapy, and a few other things. But it is daunting nonetheless. As much as I would love to fastforward to 3,000 hours in the future, oh and while we're fastforwarding let's just fastforward to after I've passed the state licensing boards, I have a great respect for the process. I have learned and grown SO much as a therapist in the last 10 months during my traineeship. (Thanks to my supervisor, co-workers, and the amazing women I worked with!)

I don't want to get too technical and bore you to tears....but in a nutshell, that's where I'm at. On to new endeavors....

As of, as soon as I can start doing outreach and scheduling clients, I will be working at The Centre for Psychotherapy (CFP) in Brea, CA. It is a private practice that I was connected with through one of my classmates. I'm so excited for this opportunity, and am praying that God would open doors for me to do His work here.
