Q&A

Did I enjoy going back to work this week?

NO. It was a hard transition and a few tears were shed. Would you want to leave this sweet face? While I never thought I would be one of what I used to refer to as "those women" who LOVE breast feeding (I don't mean that in a bad way...), it is the bond that I missed the most. I felt like there was a big gap between me and my girl. And I didn't like it. I teared up more than once when I was pumping at work. And since I was pumping all the time I felt like my supply decreased, and I found myself wondering if she was getting enough while she was back to breast feeding in the evenings. Bleh. So thankful for the weekend. Next week I'm back to what will become my usual part time schedule - Mondays, Wed AM, and Thursdays. So thankful for that too! And I'm also so thankful for my friend, Kristen, who is loving Emma while I'm at work. She's in such great hands.

What's up with Emma, you ask?

She turned 3 months old on Friday!! She's right on the brink of doing SO many things. She gazes at toys as if she so badly wants to reach out and grab them. She lays on her tummy (against her own will) and throws her leg over almost all the way but can't quite roll over. And she's got the cutest little almost laugh but not quite. She's mesmerized with our lips. She almost likes sucking on her hands (hasn't found the thumb yet) more than her pacifier. Oh yah, and she fights sleep LIKE IT'S HER JOB. That's new...sort of. She's become much more aware of the world around her, and loves sitting up or sitting in her Bumbo so that she doesn't miss a thing. She also loves laying in her bouncer and watching Praise Baby. (Seriously...if you need a gift for the little people in your life these DVD's are amazing!) Emma's also looking more and more like her daddy every single day!

Are we going "home" for Christmas?

Yes!! We're going to Iowa from Dec 25-30. I. Can't. Wait. We can't wait to meet our nephew, Azariah. And introduce our sweet girl to the rest of the family. Think happy thoughts about the plane ride for me will ya?! :)

What's new with the house?

The fruit tree portion of our back yard which contained lemons, oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, and nectarines has grown to include avocados, peaches, guavas, and blueberries! Yum. The latter, with the exception of blueberries, probably won't give fruit for about 5 years. But we'll have oranges and tangerines ready again in January. The backyard is still a huge work in progress, but we love having all of the space that we do and it has been a ton of fun, for the most part!

I've been back at work for 3 and a half months and am still pumping. Trust your body...it will make the milk. Mason has come to understand that he might have to work a little harder on the weekend but my milk is always back by Monday. Pumping hasn't been the funnest endeavour but I haven't regretted it for a second because his giggle before he laches makes everything all worth it!
Other tidbit--I found a great pump on E-bay. Medella and that has made a huge difference in supply too.
