how my mom made dinner special

Focus on the Family is putting on this Mother's Day Contest. I just wanted to share my entry. Love my mom!

Dinner time was always a special time for our family. My mom Deb lives life exuding the fullness of joy that she has in Jesus Christ. Her presence at the dinner table was evidence of that. When we were growing up my sister and I were probably around the ages of 4 and 6 when scripture memory became a big part of our family devotional time after dinner. My parents used something called Well Versed Kids to help us memorize Bible verses. Over time, we came up with games that made this such a fun time for our family. We would go around the table saying one word at a time and each person would get a mini marshmallow if they got it right. One of our favorite things to do was set the verses to song, and put on post-dinner performances for mom and dad!

I remember smiling and laughing a lot. As I sit here reflecting on those special times, what I see happening around the dinner table between the four of us is such an incredibly clear picture to me of what true fellowship and a love relationship with the Savior through time in His Word looks like. As young girls, we were pretty intently focused on the marshmallows, but what is so special to me is that already my mom and dad were facilitating the growth of the love relationship I have with my Jesus 20 years later.

That's why my mom made dinner eternally "special"!!
